About us
Head Safe Football (HSF) is unique. We learn from the past and focus on the future. We continually review research and provide state of the art knowledge. We work with all stakeholders. We safeguard present and future players by minimising the risks of CTE brain disease. We care for
affected players and their families. You have questions. We have answers.
What are our goals?
- To safeguard young players from CTE by education on reducing heading in training.
- To promote ‘Football United (the entire footballing community) v CTE’
- To create a team of HeadSAFE Trailblazers who unite to collectively combat CTE.
- To mobilise and unite the entire footballing community, from grassroots to the professional level, to take action.
- To be aware of, educate, prevent and protect against CTE, whilst caring for the victims.
What is CTE?
The only cure is prevention.
CTE is a progressive and incurable brain disease caused by repetitive head impacts, including headers. The severity, intensity and frequency of head impacts are contributory factors. Symptoms include aggression, violence, confusion, depression, and memory loss. Unremitting, symptoms slowly worsen over decades and result in dementia. There is no reprieve, no escape.
Did you know?
Science shows that heading a football causes short-term and long-term brain damage.
What is the story behind the brand?
CTE brain disease: the elephant in the room.
The elephant in the room is used to represent a known but controversial problem that no-one is willing to talk about. Our elephant is called CTE brain disease.
We want the footballing community to see clearly, acknowledge scientific truths, take action and eliminate CTE.
Why have we used an elephant in our logo?
There’s a number of reasons we chose an elephant to represent Head Safe Football.
- Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) is the “elephant in the room” amongst the footballing community.
- The popular saying “an elephant never forgets” symbolises that although many of our players can no longer remember, we will never forget.
- Elephants are strong and nurturing, they are loyal to their family and are determined and protective. We are determined to live in a world where playing football doesn’t result in harm, or death. We will protect our players of yesterday, today and tomorrow.
What fonts have we chosen and why?
Every little detail has been thought out, including our font. We have used the font ‘impact’ to represent the impact caused by heading a ball in football.
